How We Open Your Door Without Breaking Anything
The first thing a Raleigh Pro Locksmith technician does when arriving at a lockout is assess the specific lock hardware on your door — its brand, model, condition, and the type of keyway. This assessment usually takes less than two minutes and determines which non-destructive technique is most appropriate. For the vast majority of residential lockouts, we use lock picking or bypass tools that manipulate the lock's own pins or levers into the open position, leaving the hardware completely intact. A skilled technician working on a common Kwikset or Schlage deadbolt — the kind you'll find on homes throughout Valley Stream or Far Rockaway — can often have the door open in under ten minutes.
When picking alone isn't the fastest or most practical route, we may use lock bumping, shimming, or a technique called impressioning, all of which still preserve your existing hardware. Destructive entry — drilling through the lock cylinder — is an absolute last resort and is only discussed with you first, typically when a lock is severely damaged, a high-security pin-tumbler system is involved, or picking would take longer than the urgency of the situation allows. Even then, we carry replacement cylinders and lock sets in our mobile unit so your door is secured again before we leave.
