Audi Key Types We Replace: Fobs, Transponders, and Smart Keys
Modern Audi vehicles use several distinct key technologies, and knowing which one your car requires matters enormously for a successful replacement. Older Audi models from the late 1990s through the mid-2000s often use a basic transponder key — a traditional metal blade with a microchip embedded in the plastic head. That chip must be electronically programmed to match your car's immobilizer system, or the engine simply will not start. A cut blade alone is not enough. We carry a wide range of Audi transponder blanks and program them on the spot using OEM-level diagnostic tools.
Newer Audi models — including popular vehicles like the A4, A6, Q5, Q7, e-tron, and the TT — rely on advanced flip keys with integrated remote fobs, or fully keyless smart keys that use Audi's Advanced Key proximity system. These smart keys allow you to unlock and start your car without ever taking the key out of your pocket, which is convenient until the key is lost or damaged. Programming a replacement smart key or proximity fob requires two-way communication with your vehicle's onboard modules, specialized software, and the right encrypted blank. Our technicians handle all of this at your location, whether you're stranded near JFK or parked outside a store in Hewlett or Cedarhurst.
